TS Inter Exams 2026: Fees Rise, 5-Year Rule Removed

The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has revised examination fees for the Intermediate Public Examinations (IPE) 2026. Alongside the fee changes, TGBIE removed the long-standing five-year completion rule for failed students. The new fee structure and regulations affect all students appearing for IPE 2026. The deadline to pay exam fees without a late charge is November 14 .

Exam Fee Revisions

TGBIE announced an increase in examination fees across various categories for the IPE 2026. This adjustment aims to cover operational costs associated with conducting the statewide examinations. Students should review the updated fee schedule carefully to ensure correct payment.

For TS Inter 1st year exams 2026, the fee for arts and science streams increased from Rs 520 to Rs 530 . This represents a minor increase of Rs 10 per student. Additionally, TGBIE introduced a new, separate fee of Rs 100 for English practical exams. This applies to all eligible 1st-year students.

TS Inter 2nd year board exam 2026 fees also saw revisions. Students will now pay Rs 630 for theory papers. For science and vocational candidates, the total fee is Rs 870 . This comprehensive fee covers Rs 530 for theory papers, Rs 240 for science practicals, and Rs 100 for English practicals. This structured fee ensures all components are accounted for.

Exam Category Previous Fee (Rs) Revised Fee (Rs) Notes
TS Inter 1st Year (Arts & Science) 520 530 Rs 10 increase
English Practical Exam (1st Year) Not applicable 100 New separate fee introduced
TS Inter 2nd Year (Theory) Varies 630 Base fee for theory papers
TS Inter 2nd Year (Science & Vocational) Varies 870 Includes Theory (530), Science Practicals (240), English Practicals (100)

Removal of 5-Year Rule

A significant policy change involves the removal of the five-year rule. Previously, students had a maximum of five years to clear all subjects in their Intermediate course. If a student failed to pass within this timeframe, they were permanently barred from re-appearing for those exams.

The TGBIE has now abolished this restriction. Under the new guidelines, students who previously failed to clear their subjects within five years can now re-appear. This applies regardless of how much time has passed since their initial attempts. This decision provides a crucial opportunity for many students to complete their intermediate education.

Improvement Exam Provisions

TGBIE continues to offer provisions for improvement exams. Candidates who successfully completed their two-year Intermediate course in 2024 or any subsequent year are eligible to improve their performance.

Eligible students can avail themselves of two chances to improve their scores within two years of passing their IPE. For candidates who passed IPE March 2025, the IPE March 2026 exam serves as their last opportunity for improvement, provided they have not already utilized their two previous chances.

Students opting for improvement must appear for all papers in the relevant subject combination, including practicals. After the exams, successful candidates have an option. They can choose to retain their current performance or their past performance, selecting whichever is more beneficial for their overall scores. TGBIE explicitly states there is no provision for retaining “best marks” on individual papers; the choice applies to the entire result.

Malpractice Guidelines

TGBIE maintains strict guidelines regarding malpractice during IPE exams. Specific rules apply to students identified under malpractice charges.

This includes 2nd year regular science candidates from the general stream and 1st-year and 2nd-year students from the vocational stream. Students booked under malpractice must re-appear for both theory and practical exams. This applies once they complete their period of ineligibility and are officially allowed to re-sit the examinations.
