The meeting centered on aligning academic strategies with regional and national development priorities.

Refocusing on Future Skills and Industry Needs

He stated that academic initiatives must directly serve regional and national developmental goals. This ensures graduates possess skills critical for the evolving job market. Sinha advised the Cluster University of Jammu to strengthen its integrated and professional programs. This move aims to meet both emerging academic demands and specific industry requirements.

Approving Major Academic Reforms

The University Council granted in-principle approval to several key academic and administrative proposals. Reforms fully aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) received official confirmation. These include implementing a new undergraduate curriculum across all programs. The council also approved new specialized programs. Flexible course structures will further enhance student employability upon graduation.

Master of Arts programs will commence in Education and Performing Arts, broadening artistic and scholarly pursuits. Post-graduate level studies will expand to include Geography and Cyber Security, addressing modern challenges. New minor, skill, and value-added courses will also be available across all constituent colleges, fostering diverse expertise.

Streamlining Administration and Enhancing Student Support

Lieutenant Governor Sinha issued clear administrative directives. He mandated the full implementation of an e-office system throughout the university. This digital system must become operational by the end of June 2026 , enhancing efficiency. Sinha also directed the University Council to convene meetings more regularly. These crucial council meetings will now occur every six months , ensuring consistent oversight.

Measures directly benefiting students also secured council approval. Students will now earn additional academic credits for participating in sports and cultural activities. The council formally confirmed revised credit norms for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), promoting online learning. Furthermore, new inclusive examination and admission policies were adopted. These policies aim to create a more accessible and supportive academic environment for all students.

Engaging Youth in National Campaigns

LG Sinha specifically called for greater student involvement in vital national initiatives. He encouraged increased participation in the “Viksit Bharat Yuva” connect program, fostering youth leadership. Students received directives to actively engage in the “Nasha Mukt Bharat” (Drug-Free India) campaign. This mandate also specifically included the “Nasha Mukt J&K” (Drug-Free Jammu & Kashmir) campaign. These initiatives aim to promote civic responsibility, community welfare, and a healthier society among young adults.

These directives from the Lieutenant Governor outline a strategic vision. This vision seeks to modernize higher education in Jammu and Kashmir. The focus remains on equipping students with practical skills for a dynamic job market. It also promotes their active and responsible role in national development efforts.
