IIT Kanpur Class of 2000 Pledges ₹100 Cr for New School

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur’s Class of 2000 pledged Rs 100 crore during its Silver Jubilee Reunion on campus. This donation will establish the new Millennium School of Technology and Society at the institute.

IIT Kanpur confirmed this pledge represents the highest announced by a single graduating batch across any academic institution in India. The announcement occurred during the reunion, which included alumni from India and abroad.

Millennium School of Technology and Society

The pledged amount will fund the creation of the Millennium School of Technology and Society. This new school will concentrate its education and research efforts. Its focus will be at the intersection of technology and critical societal challenges.

The initiative aligns with IIT Kanpur’s strategic goals. These goals include expanding interdisciplinary academic programs and increasing the institute’s overall research capacity.

Alumni Role in Development

IIT Kanpur views alumni contributions as a key component of its institutional development plans. These plans target infrastructure improvements, research expansion, and academic growth. The institute will develop the new school in consultation with the Class of 2000 alumni batch and other relevant academic bodies.

IIT Kanpur Director Manindra Agrawal commented on the pledge. He stated, “This remarkable pledge by the Class of 2000’s affirms the enduring bond between IIT Kanpur and its alumni. Such collective giving strengthens our academic and research ecosystem. It also inspires future generations to support the institution that shaped them.”

Naveen Tewari, an alumnus from the Class of 2000, spoke on behalf of the batch. He said, “IIT Kanpur provided us with more than a degree. It gave us the courage to think big, question assumptions, and build with purpose. This pledge is our collective effort to give back. It ensures future generations receive similar or greater opportunities to learn and lead.”
