The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a directive to all affiliated schools. This order requires schools to provide Class 11 registration numbers to students. The registration numbers are essential for those applying to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026.
The CBSE’s action follows multiple complaints from students and parents. These complaints stated that schools were not issuing the necessary Class 11 registration data. Without these numbers, students face difficulties completing their JEE Main 2026 applications.
Mandatory Requirement for JEE Main 2026
The National Testing Agency (NTA) mandates the inclusion of the Class 11 registration number for all JEE Main 2026 applicants. This requirement was initially highlighted in a CBSE circular dated October 30, 2025 .
The circular was issued in conjunction with the Class 10 and 12 Board Examinations Date Sheet. It explicitly informed schools that NTA would require the Class 11 registration number for the JEE Main application process. Consequently, schools were requested to supply this information to their students.
CBSE Addresses Non-Compliance
Despite previous instructions, the CBSE has continued to receive reports of non-compliance. Many Class 12 students, who intend to appear for JEE Main 2026, have not received their Class 11 registration numbers from their schools.
The board views this matter with seriousness. It has reaffirmed its stance, reiterating that schools must provide the Class 11 registration number to all students. This directive applies to every student applying for the JEE Main 2026 examination.
