About This Scholarship

The South Asia Journalism Fellowship (SAJP) 2026-27 is a unique opportunity funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office. It is hosted by the prestigious University of Westminster, offering a valuable experience for mid-career journalists.

This 8-week fellowship specifically targets journalists from various South Asian countries, including India. The curriculum is meticulously designed to focus on critical aspects such as media accountability and the broader operational context of political institutions.

The selected fellows for this program are entitled to significant benefits, including full program fees and several other advantageous provisions throughout their fellowship period.

Application Deadline: The final date to submit applications for this esteemed fellowship is 7 October 2025.

The selection process is rigorous, beginning with an assessment of applications by independent reading committees. Candidates who meet the initial criteria will be shortlisted by the British embassies or high commissions. Following the shortlisting stage, candidates will undergo an interview, which will be the final step in determining the successful fellows.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

• be a citizen of India
• not hold British or dual-British citizenship
• have at least seven years’ work experience before applying
• have a postgraduate level qualification (or equivalent professional training or experience in a relevant area) at the time of application
• be a mid-career journalist working in the political or economic sectors in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Afghanistan, or Bangladesh
• have a good working knowledge of English
• agree to return to the country of citizenship at the end of the period of the fellowship
• agree to adhere to all relevant guidelines and expectations of the fellowship
