About This Scholarship

SERB • POWER Research Grants 2023 presents a significant research opportunity offered by the Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB) to women researchers across India.

This scheme is specifically designed to encourage both emerging and eminent women researchers. It provides an individual-centric and competitive mode of research funding, enabling them to undertake advanced Research and Development (R&D) activities in frontier areas of Science and Engineering.

The selected fellows will receive substantial grants, with funding available up to INR 60,00,000 for a duration of three years. These grants are categorized into two levels based on the applicant's institutional affiliation, ensuring tailored support for various academic and research environments.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the SERB • POWER Research Grants, an applicant must fulfill the following fundamental criteria:

• Be an Indian citizen.
• Hold a regular academic or research position in a recognized academic institution, a national laboratory, or any other recognized R&D institution located within India.

Important Notes regarding Eligibility and Project Categorization:

Institutional Categories:
• Applicants affiliated with IITs, IISERs, IISc, NITs, Central Universities, and National Labs of Central Government Institutions will be considered under the Level I category.
• Applicants from State Universities/Colleges and Private Academic Institutions should apply under the Level II category.

Eligibility for Superannuating or Superannuated Investigators:
• Investigators who are nearing superannuation during the project's duration, or those who have already superannuated, are also eligible to apply.
• In such specific cases, a Woman Faculty/Scientist from the host institute, who has at least 5 years of service remaining, must be formally associated as a Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI).
• Furthermore, the host institution must provide a written commitment allowing the investigator to continue their research activities after superannuation and must provide all the necessary support required for the successful implementation of the project.

Required Documents

The complete proposal for the SERB • POWER Research Grants must comprehensively include the following components:

Project Title: A concise and descriptive title for the proposed research, limited to a maximum of 500 characters.
Project Summary: A detailed summary outlining the core aspects of the project, not exceeding 3,000 characters.
Keywords: A list of relevant keywords, with a maximum of 6, to help classify the research area.
Objectives of the Project: Clearly articulated and specific objectives that the project aims to achieve, limited to a maximum of 1,500 characters.
Expected Output and Outcome of the Proposal: A description of the anticipated results, deliverables, and the broader impact or benefits expected from the research, not exceeding 1,500 characters.
Detailed Budget Breakdown: A comprehensive breakdown of the financial requirements, itemizing costs under the following categories:
• Research Personnel
• Consumables
• Travel
• Equipment
• Contingency
• Overhead

7. Profile Update and Submission: After successfully registering, proceed to meticulously fill in all the mandatory fields within the 'User Profile' section. This includes uploading your biodata (adhering to the defined template), a recent photograph, your institute's address, and any other pertinent information. Once all details are accurately entered, submit your complete profile.

Important Note for Proposal Submission:
• The entire research proposal, along with any other technical documents (OTD), must be consolidated and uploaded as a single PDF file. The maximum permissible file size for this PDF document is 10 MB.
