About This Scholarship
This scholarship is an initiative by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, designed to support Scheduled Caste (SC) students. It targets those whose parent(s)/guardian(s) are engaged in professions involving manual scavenging, flaying, waste picking, or other hazardous health occupations. The scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to these students, enabling them to continue their education from Class 1 to 10.
The selected candidates are eligible to receive significant financial aid, including a monthly scholarship and an annual ad-hoc grant. Additionally, specific provisions are made for students with disabilities to ensure comprehensive support, covering aspects like reader, transport, escort allowances, and special pay for assistance.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the NSP Pre-Matric SC Cleaning and Health Hazard Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be an Indian national.
• Be domiciled in Tripura.
• Be enrolled in Class 1 to 10 in an institution recognized by a concerned State Government or Union Territory Administration.
• Be a child/ward of a person engaged in manual scavenging, flaying, waste picking, or a hazardous health occupation (as defined in Section 2(I) of the Manual Scavengers Act 2013).
Scholarship Benefits:
Eligible students will receive the following awards for 10 months of the academic year:
• Scholarship Amount:
• Day Scholars: ₹225 per month (Class 1 to 10)
• Hostellers: ₹700 per month (Class 3 to 10)
• Ad-Hoc Grant (per annum):
• Day Scholars: ₹750 per annum
• Hostellers: ₹1,000 per annum
Additional provisions for students with disabilities:
• Reader allowance of ₹100 per month for blind students in Classes 3 and 10.
• Transport allowance of ₹50 per month for disabled students not residing in the hostel within the premises of the educational institution.
• Special pay of ₹100 per month would be admissible to any employee or the hostel willing to extend help to a severely orthopedically handicapped student residing in a hostel managed by the educational institution or by the State Government/Union Territory Administration who may need the assistance of a helper.
• Escort allowance of ₹50 per month for severely handicapped day scholar students with lower extremity disability.
• Allowance of ₹100 per month towards extra coaching to mentally retarded and mentally ill students in Class 3 and 10.
Important Notes regarding eligibility and benefits:
• The disability, as defined under the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act, 1995), must be certified by a competent medical authority of the State Government/Union Territory Administration.
• Students who receive the scholarship can continue to receive it for the following academic year unless the school authority recommends discontinuing it to the state government or union territory administration due to a violation of the scholarship's regulations.
• The scholarship amount will be disbursed into an Aadhaar-linked bank account of the student/parent through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The selection of candidates will be based on the fulfillment of the outlined eligibility criteria.
Required Documents
Applicants are required to submit the following documents as part of their scholarship application:
• Caste certificate
• Disability certificate (if applicable and required)
• Academic transcripts, including mark sheets or degrees of the previous qualifying year.
• A certificate from a District Social Welfare officer, an identified officer of the local body, civic agency, or any such authority designated by the State Government. This certificate should confirm the parent(s)/guardian(s) engagement in the specified hazardous occupations.
How to Apply
Eligible applicants can apply for the scholarship through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) by following these steps:
1. Begin by visiting the official website of the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
2. If you are a new user, click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. If you are already registered, log in using your registered Gmail, mobile number, or email ID.
3. Navigate to the 'Students' option on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
4. Next, click on the 'Login' button under the OTR (One-Time Registration) option, as it is a prerequisite for applying for scholarships on the National Scholarship Portal.
5. Click on the 'New user? Register yourself' link on the left-hand side of the dashboard.
6. Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox to confirm your understanding, and then click on the 'Next' button.
7. Enter a functional mobile number, the provided captcha code, and the OTP received on your mobile, then submit to complete the initial registration process.
8. Fill in all the required details for the 'One-time registration (OTR)' process and click on 'Save & Register'.
• Note: This will provide a temporary registration number. Students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to fully complete the OTR process and obtain a permanent registration number.
9. After successful registration, navigate to the 'Apply for Scholarship' option and click on the 'Login' button.
10. Select the specific scholarship, fill in all the required details in the application form, upload the necessary documents, and finally, submit your application.
Important Advisory for Applicants:
• All applicants are strongly advised to fill in the information correctly on the application form.
• Once the application is submitted, no changes can be made.
• Submitting multiple applications for the same scholarship will result in disqualification.
