About This Scholarship
The NEC Merit Scholarship for Students of NER 2025-26 presents a valuable opportunity offered by the North Eastern Council (NEC), operating under the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region. This scholarship aims to provide crucial financial assistance to meritorious students.
It is specifically designed for students from the North Eastern Region (NER) of India who are pursuing higher professional courses at recognized Indian institutions. The initiative helps to alleviate financial barriers, enabling students to continue their academic journeys without undue burden.
Selected candidates can receive significant financial support, with annual awards ranging from ₹20,000 up to ₹30,000, depending on their specific course level. The application window for this scholarship closes on October 31, 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, an applicant must:
• Be an Indian citizen and a permanent resident of one of the following Northeastern states:
• Assam
• Arunachal Pradesh
• Manipur
• Meghalaya
• Mizoram
• Nagaland
• Sikkim
• Tripura
• Be enrolled in a diploma, degree, or postgraduate course, or be registered in an M.Phil. or Ph.D. program.
• Have passed the required qualifying examination (HSLC/HSSLC/Secondary School Leaving/Senior Secondary Leaving Certificate) from a recognized state/central board (for diploma courses).
• Have scored a minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying examinations.
• Possess an annual family income of less than ₹8,00,000 from all sources.
Required Documents
The following documents are required for the application:
• Permanent residence certificate issued by the Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner/Sub-divisional officers of civil sub-divisions in the North Eastern States.
• Note: For Sikkim, a Certificate of Identification (COI) issued by the respective Deputy Commissioner in the Government of Sikkim to its Permanent residents is required.
• Important: A certificate from any other authority will not be accepted.
• Income certificate issued by the Competent Authority.
• Bank account passbook.
• Note: The account must be in the name of the applicant.
• Marksheet of the previous qualifying examination.
• Synopsis signed by the project guide/director (Research) or any official authorized by the Institute/University in the case of M.Phil/Ph.D. degree candidates.
How to Apply
Eligible applicants can apply for the scholarship by following these steps:
1. Click on the 'Apply Now' button below.
2. Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details.
• Note: If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID.
3. Navigate to the 'Students' option on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
4. Now, click on the 'Login' button under the OTR option, as it is required to apply for a scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
5. Click on the 'New user? Register yourself' on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
6. Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the 'Next' button.
7. Enter a functional mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, then submit to complete the registration process.
8. Fill in the required details and click on 'Save & Register' to complete the 'One-time registration (OTR)' process.
• Note: This is a temporary registration number. Students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to complete the OTR process.
9. After successful registration, navigate to the 'Apply for Scholarship' option and click on the 'Login' button.
10. Select the scholarship, fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents, and submit.
Important Note for Applicants:
All applicants are advised to fill in the information correctly on the application form. Once the application is submitted, no changes can be made. Additionally, submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification.
