The West Bengal cabinet approved a Rs 2,349.78 crore school education overhaul on Thursday . The program, titled “Enhancing School Education in West Bengal,” aims to modernize the state’s educational system. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will fund 70% of the project. The state government will cover the remaining 30%.

State education minister Bratya Basu announced the cabinet’s approval on X. He stated the project will strengthen school infrastructure. It will also advance technology integration in schools. Infrastructure and Technology Upgrades
The program will upgrade physical infrastructure in government and government-aided schools. This includes constructing and renovating classrooms. Improved ICT labs are a priority.
Curriculum and Teacher Development

Early Childhood Education and Model Schools
The cabinet also reviewed proposals for anganwadi centers. This review focused on improving nutrition. It also aimed at enhancing pre-primary learning environments. These efforts fall under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) framework. The project includes developing model schools. These schools will be in backward, underserved areas. The goal is to bridge regional disparities. Students in these areas will get better infrastructure. They will receive digital facilities and quality academic resources.
