West Bengal School Education Overhaul Gets Cabinet Nod

The West Bengal cabinet approved a Rs 2,349.78 crore school education overhaul on Thursday . The program, titled “Enhancing School Education in West Bengal,” aims to modernize the state’s educational system. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will fund 70% of the project. The state government will cover the remaining 30%.

Program Objectives

State education minister Bratya Basu announced the cabinet’s approval on X. He stated the project will strengthen school infrastructure. It will also advance technology integration in schools. Promoting modern scientific techniques is another key goal. The initiative seeks sustainable, improved educational development statewide.

Infrastructure and Technology Upgrades

The program will upgrade physical infrastructure in government and government-aided schools. This includes constructing and renovating classrooms. Libraries, laboratories, and sanitation facilities will also be improved. The project emphasizes technology integration. This involves establishing smart classrooms and digital learning tools. Improved ICT labs are a priority.

Curriculum and Teacher Development

The initiative will promote modern scientific techniques in schools. It aims to encourage hands-on learning. Innovation and practical exposure in science subjects are key. Teacher training and capacity-building are included. This ensures effective implementation of new teaching methods. Officials confirmed this aspect of the project.

Early Childhood Education and Model Schools

The cabinet also reviewed proposals for anganwadi centers. This review focused on improving nutrition. It also aimed at enhancing pre-primary learning environments. These efforts fall under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) framework. The project includes developing model schools. These schools will be in backward, underserved areas. The goal is to bridge regional disparities. Students in these areas will get better infrastructure. They will receive digital facilities and quality academic resources.
