Victoria University Opens First India Campus in Gurugram

Victoria University (VU) will open its first India campus in Gurugram, Haryana, by mid- 2026 . This establishes VU as the first Australian university licensed by the Indian government to operate a campus under the new National Education Policy (NEP).

The Gurugram campus, located in the Delhi NCR region, offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These include courses in business, information technology, and research. All programs use VU’s block model of teaching.

India’s National Education Policy

The Victoria University campus in Gurugram is a direct outcome of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) . The NEP, introduced in 2020, allows foreign universities to establish campuses in India for the first time.

This policy internationalizes Indian higher education. It provides students with access to global quality education within the country. It also reduces financial and logistical barriers associated with studying abroad.

The Indian government, through the University Grants Commission (UGC), grants licenses for these foreign campuses. VU’s approval meets the new regulations.

VU Campus Details and Offerings

The Gurugram campus design is based on Victoria University’s City Tower Campus in Melbourne, Australia. It brings an Australian educational experience closer to Indian students.

Scheduled for a mid- 2026 launch, the campus will focus on key areas. Business programs will include management, finance, and entrepreneurship. Information technology offerings will feature software development, cybersecurity, and data analytics. Research programs support innovation in these fields.

This initiative makes quality Australian education more affordable and accessible. It removes costs of overseas travel, visas, and living expenses in Australia.

The VU Block Model Explained

The VU block model is a unique teaching approach. Students concentrate on one subject at a time. Each subject completes intensively over a four-week period.

Classes are delivered in small, workshop-style settings. This promotes active learning and student-teacher interaction. This structure differs from traditional semester models, where students typically study multiple subjects concurrently.

Victoria University was the first Australian institution to implement this model. It remains the largest university in Australia using this approach. The block model has also gained international recognition, adopted by institutions in Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

According to an official VU press release, the block model produces strong academic outcomes. Undergraduate and postgraduate pass rates reach 94% . The model also improves student retention, progression, and overall success.

The university states the block model benefits specific student groups. It shows positive impacts for first-in-family students and those from disadvantaged backgrounds, promoting inclusive education.

Contribution to India’s Workforce

Victoria University’s presence in India contributes to the nation’s human capital development. By delivering globally relevant curricula, the university aligns education with industry needs.

The campus fosters engagement with local industries in India. This collaboration ensures graduates acquire skills directly applicable to the Indian job market. It produces skilled professionals ready for employment.

This development supports India’s economic and educational objectives. It creates a highly skilled workforce, reduces brain drain, and boosts domestic innovation.
