On Monday, she chaired a review meeting at Raj Bhavan in Lucknow, stressing the importance of enhancing the quality and relevance of technical skills and knowledge in the state.
Key Discussions on Technical Education Reforms
The meeting involved key stakeholders, including officials from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) and the state’s Technical Education Department. Discussions centered on critical areas aimed at elevating technical education standards. An official statement detailed the primary topics:
- Reviewing processes for the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) to ensure higher educational standards.
- Evaluating performance and strategic improvements related to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) .
- Simplifying university affiliation procedures for new and existing technical institutes.
- Plans for establishing new pharmacy institutes to expand specialized education opportunities.
- Developing strategies for strengthening the research and development ecosystem within all technical education sectors.
Governor’s Directives for AKTU and Institutions
Governor Patel issued clear directives aimed at improving operational efficiency and student welfare across technical institutions. She instructed officials to immediately resolve all pending issues within AKTU’s IT and Electronics Department. She gave similar directions concerning problems at incubation centres designed to foster new ventures.
Patel strongly advocated for promoting startups. She directed that institutions and students demonstrating strong entrepreneurial performance receive advanced financial incentives. Additional instructions from the Governor included:
- Completing all pending university administrative and academic work expeditiously.
- Ensuring that all collected student fees are used exclusively for student welfare initiatives and support.
- Implementing a planned, transparent approach for determining university fee structures.
- Providing all necessary student facilities, such as laboratories and libraries, in a timely and efficient manner.
The Governor also highlighted positive developments. AKTU successfully completed its admission process on schedule. The university also introduced the DigiLocker facility, enhancing both transparency and convenience for its students.
New Initiatives for Women’s Welfare
In a separate session, Governor Patel reviewed the operations of government-run girls’ homes located in Lucknow. She met with officials from the Women Welfare Department to discuss improvements. Patel directed specific and comprehensive attention towards the education, health, and overall development of the girls residing in these homes. Her instructions outlined several critical actions:
- Facilitating the opening of bank accounts for all residents, promoting financial literacy and independence.
- Conducting regular and thorough health check-ups for all girls.
- Organizing specialized health camps, to be conducted through King George Medical University (KGMU) , providing expert medical care.
- Ensuring all applicable government welfare schemes reach the girls on a priority basis.
- Establishing links between girls’ homes and local universities to foster educational opportunities, health awareness, and self-reliance among the residents.
