UGC NET Admit Card 2025: Release Dates & Center Concerns

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will issue admit cards for the University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) December 2025 session between December 27 and December 29 . Exams begin on December 31 . This release follows concerns from candidates regarding distant exam center allotments, with some reporting centers over 1000 km from their homes.

Admit Card Release and Exam Schedule

Candidates must carry the UGC NET admit card to their allotted exam center for entry. The NTA typically releases these cards two to four days before the examination date. Candidates will download their hall ticket using their application number and password from the official website.

The UGC NET exam is a computer-based test (CBT). It will take place on December 31 , January 2 , January 3 , January 5 , January 6 , and January 7 . The eligibility test covers 85 subjects in various cities across India.

Concerns Over Exam Centers

The NTA issued the UGC NET exam city intimation slip on December 20 . This slip informed registered candidates of their assigned exam city. The purpose is to help candidates plan travel ahead of time.

However, allotment of far-off exam cities remains a recurring issue. One candidate shared on X: “I got 3rd choice in UGC NET centre allotment that is 1000km from my current address. I am not able to travel. I have filled the options because we have to fill four centers. Please look into the matter.”

NTA’s Stance on Allotment

NTA allows applicants to list four preferred cities in their application form. The agency states it prioritizes these choices. However, it also clarified: “Effort will be made to allot a Centre of Examination to the candidates in order of the city choice opted by them in their Application Form. However, due to administrative reasons, a different city may also be allotted.”

About the UGC NET Exam

Approximately 6-8 lakh candidates register for the UGC NET exam annually. This test determines eligibility for:

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
  • Recruitment as Assistant Professor
  • Admission to PhD programmes

Admit Card Details and Support

The advance city slip and the admit card are distinct documents. The admit card provides complete details. This includes the candidate’s personal information, roll number, exact exam center address, shift timings, subject applied for, and specific exam day guidelines.

Candidates unable to download their admit card from the website should contact the NTA Help Line. Support is available between 9:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Candidates can also write to the NTA via their official portal.
