Tripura Approves Ayurveda, Homeopathy Medical Colleges

The Tripura Cabinet approved the establishment of two new medical colleges, one for Ayurveda and one for Homeopathy. These colleges are slated to open for the 2026-27 academic session. The state currently operates three medical colleges, including Agartala Govt Medical College.

New Medical Colleges Approved

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced the cabinet’s decision on Friday. Both the Ayurvedic and Homeopathic medical colleges will begin functioning next academic year. Each institution will have an intake capacity of 60 students.

The Ayurvedic medical college will initially operate from Chandrapur in Gomati district. A permanent campus for this college is planned for Tepania, also in Gomati district.

The Homeopathy medical college will be located at the Netaji Subhas Homoeopathic Hospital in West Tripura district.

Additional Cabinet Decisions

The cabinet also sanctioned 330 new posts for the IT department. This includes 220 Assistant Technical Officer positions to be filled through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC).

Furthermore, 110 veterinary officers will be appointed to the animal resources development department. This is the largest recruitment drive for the IT department to date.

Student Stipend Increase

A decision was made to increase the daily stipend for students residing in tribal hostels. The stipend will rise from Rs 80 to Rs 100 per day.

This increase will benefit approximately 37,773 tribal students. These students currently live in state-run hostels.
