Tipra Motha Chief Offers ₹10 Lakh for Anjel Chakma Murder Info

Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma announced a Rs 10 lakh reward on Monday for information leading to the arrest of the main accused in Anjel Chakma’s murder. Chakma, a 24-year-old MBA student, died on December 26 after being attacked in Dehradun on December 9 . The assault reportedly followed his objection to a racial slur. This significant reward surpasses a previous offer from the local police.

Substantial Reward Announced

Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma made his reward announcement public via a video post. He expressed strong dissatisfaction with the initial reward amount offered by authorities. The Uttarakhand Police had earlier declared a Rs 25,000 cash reward. This police reward targeted information on the individual identified as the mastermind behind the murder. Debbarma sharply criticized the police reward, calling it insufficient for a murder case. He questioned its value, stating, “Is this the price for arresting the mastermind in the killing of Anjel Chakma, a final year student of MBA?” The Tipra Motha chief further affirmed the entire Rs 10 lakh sum would be paid from his personal funds. This commitment underscored his determination to seek justice for Chakma.

Details of the Fatal Incident

Anjel Chakma was a final-year MBA student. He hailed from Nandannagar in West Tripura district. The tragic incident unfolded in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Chakma was reportedly attacked by a group of six individuals. The violent assault took place on December 9 . The confrontation stemmed from Chakma’s objection to a racial slur. The slur was directed at him by the group members. He sustained severe injuries during the attack. Chakma was immediately hospitalized for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to these injuries on December 26 . His death occurred more than two weeks after the initial assault. The incident has raised public concern over safety and racial prejudice in the region.

Ongoing Criminal Investigation

Law enforcement officials continue their investigation into Anjel Chakma’s murder. Police have confirmed progress in identifying and apprehending suspects. Five of the six individuals allegedly involved in the attack have been arrested. These arrests have advanced the case. However, the person identified as the mastermind behind the fatal assault currently remains at large. Authorities in Uttarakhand are actively searching for this absconding individual. The Uttarakhand Police had offered their Rs 25,000 reward to help facilitate this specific arrest. Investigators appeal for public assistance to locate the remaining suspect.

Tribal Council Provides Compensation

In a separate, but related, development, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP)-led Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) announced financial assistance. This council moved to support Anjel Chakma’s bereaved family. The announcement of compensation also occurred on Monday. The TTAADC approved a compensation package totaling Rs 3 lakh . This specific amount is designated to help the family with final rites and other associated expenses during their time of grief. TTAADC Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia publicly confirmed this decision. He made the announcement via a Facebook post. The compensation followed a direct recommendation from Bubagra Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, who chairs the ADC Administrative Reforms Committee. Jamatia stated this action reflects the council’s “solidarity, compassion, and a sense of collective responsibility” towards the family.
