Student Dies in Karnataka Residential School Attack

A class nine student attacked peers at a private residential school in Ballari on Saturday night . One student died. Seven others sustained injuries. Police are searching for the accused student who fled the scene. The deceased student was from Andhra Pradesh. His body was sent for a post-mortem examination at Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS).

Investigation Underway

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack. They are also trying to identify the weapons used. The accused student was reportedly among nine students supervised by a social science teacher, who also served as the hostel warden. According to Inspector General of Police (IGP) P S Harsha, the accused attacked students randomly in a fit of rage.

The teacher’s statement has been recorded. A preliminary inquiry is complete. Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams have examined the location. The injured students are receiving medical treatment. One student died en route to the hospital.

Legal Proceedings

Police registered a case at the Brucepet Police Station. The accused is considered a juvenile in conflict with the law. Investigations will proceed under the Juvenile Justice Act. This act includes safeguards for the accused. Statements from the deceased student’s parents will also be recorded. A detailed report will be submitted to the courts.

Sources suggest the warden may have also been injured while intervening. Students were reportedly asleep after dinner when the attack occurred. Minor disputes are suspected as a possible trigger for the incident. The school is a private residential institution.
