An 18-year-old first-year B.Tech student at South Asian University (SAU) in Delhi was allegedly sexually and physically assaulted on campus on October 13 . Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against four individuals, including a security guard. The victim was found injured, with her clothes torn, on campus after being reported missing the day prior.
Incident Details and Allegations
In the days leading up to the assault, the student reportedly received sexually explicit and threatening messages from an individual identified as Aryan Yash . These messages, sent via email and social media, included morphed obscene images of the victim and specific instructions to meet the sender at various locations on campus, according to her statement.
The victim stated in the FIR that she followed instructions, leaving her hostel. She moved towards the university’s convocation center, an area typically closed at night with no foot traffic. There, a security guard approached her. The guard then called a middle-aged man, who was soon joined by two other boys.
The victim alleged all four individuals physically assaulted her. They reportedly grabbed and pulled her t-shirt, while attempting to pull down her pants. One assailant placed a foot on her thigh, while another held her eyes. During the assault, she claimed one individual put a leg on her thighs, hit her on the head, and poked fingers in her eyes. An attacker pressed an abortion pill under her tongue, threatening to kill her child, though the victim stated she spat the pill out.
The assailants fled the scene when a university staff member appeared. Fellow students later discovered the 18-year-old, injured and disoriented with her clothes torn, and took her to a hostel room for counselling.
Police Investigation and FIR
Delhi Police received a PCR call regarding the incident around 3 PM on Monday . The victim’s statement has been recorded before the district magistrate. All four accused are currently absconding.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan stated the investigation is proceeding with sensitivity and priority. Police are collecting CCTV footage from the campus to identify and trace the accused. They are also examining digital communications, eyewitness accounts, and medical reports as part of the ongoing probe.
The FIR includes charges under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):
- Section 70: Gang Rape
- Section 62: Attempt to commit offences punishable with life imprisonment
- Section 140(3): Kidnapping or Abduction
- Section 123: Causing hurt by poison or similar substances
- Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt

Police also stated the victim has been receiving treatment for depression following her parents’ separation.
University Response and Student Protests
South Asian University administration condemned the incident in the strongest terms. The university constituted a probe committee, tasked with submitting a detailed report within 10 days . University officials affirmed a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment and violence against women, assuring full support and counselling for the victim.
Students staged an eight-hour sit-in protest at the administrative block following the alleged assault. Protesting students accused the university of delaying police notification and insensitivity towards the victim’s safety concerns. Police and university authorities have urged students to cooperate with the ongoing investigation while assuring that campus security measures are being reviewed and enhanced to prevent future incidents.
