The parents of a rape and murder victim from RG Kar Medical College have asked a court to question more individuals present during her fatal night shift. They are seeking a deeper investigation into what they believe is a larger conspiracy. The incident occurred in August 2024.
Parents Dissatisfied with CBI Probe
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concluded that civic volunteer Sanjay Roy was the sole perpetrator. The victim’s parents disagree with this finding. They believe the probe overlooked crucial aspects. This includes questioning a Kolkata Police officer involved in the initial investigation.
“We firmly believe only Sanjay Roy could not have been involved,” the father stated. “There were others.” The parents petitioned the Sealdah court. They requested all involved individuals be taken into custody and interrogated.
Questioning the Polygraph Test
The CBI cited a polygraph test as proof of Roy’s sole involvement. The victim’s father contested this. He noted that past court orders have deemed polygraph tests as inconclusive evidence.
The petition submitted to the court focuses on the larger conspiracy theory. The court has accepted the petition. The parents are determined to see all responsible parties identified and prosecuted. They have expressed disappointment with the CBI’s investigation.
Nationwide Outrage and Legal Proceedings
The murder sparked widespread public anger. Protests occurred across the country for months. Many women participated in demonstrations. The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front organized sit-ins and a hunger strike.
Sanjay Roy, a former civic police staffer, received a life sentence. He was convicted for the crime. The victim’s parents continue their pursuit of justice. They allege evidence tampering by the CBI.
The family has consistently voiced their commitment to fight until all involved are brought to justice. They previously participated in a rally marking the victim’s birthday. The pursuit of accountability remains their priority.
