CHANDIGARH: Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains recently dispatched 72 primary teachers to Finland for a 15-day training program. This group represents the third batch of educators traveling to the University of Turku, Finland, to study global teaching methodologies.
Finland is internationally recognized for its effective teacher-led education system and high student achievement rates. The participating educators will learn advanced pedagogical practices, aiming to integrate these insights into Punjab’s primary education framework.
The current batch comprises various primary cadre educators, including Block Primary Education Officers (BPEOs), Centre Head Teachers (CHTs), Head Teachers (HTs), and Elementary Teacher Training (ETT) teachers. This latest contingent increases the total number of Punjab teachers trained in Finland to 216. The state government highlights these initiatives as part of its commitment to transforming the education sector.

This upcoming fifth batch will participate in an intensive leadership development program at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. IIM Ahmedabad is one of India’s leading management institutions, known for its executive education and leadership courses. The program is scheduled for December 15 to 19, 2025 .

Impact and Future Outlook
The educators selected for these international and national programs undergo a rigorous merit-based selection process. The department expects these trained individuals to become ‘master trainers’ upon their return.
This ‘master trainer’ model aims to create a ripple effect throughout the state’s educational system. Trained teachers will share their newly acquired knowledge and skills with colleagues. This strategy seeks to upgrade teaching quality across all classrooms by leveraging the expertise gained from global and national institutions.
Minister Bains emphasized the broader objective of these training initiatives. He stated the programs are a mission to improve Punjab’s educational future. The goal is to provide students with a “future-ready, holistic” education that meets global standards. The training forms a core component of Punjab’s strategy to modernize its education system.
