Focus on Skills, Not Just Marks
Speaking to students, PM Modi stated that education should not be viewed as a burden. He stressed that engagement is key to success. “Half-hearted education” does not lead to desired outcomes.
Modi encouraged students to set achievable yet challenging goals. “Tame the mind, then connect the mind, and then keep the subjects you need to study,” he advised. This approach, he said, leads to student success.
Caution Against Online Gaming and Gambling
The Prime Minister warned students about excessive internet use, particularly online gaming and gambling. He cited the easy availability and affordability of data in India as a potential pitfall.
Modi explicitly cautioned against gaming for money. “Those who indulge in gaming for money will only be ruined,” he stated. He mentioned a law against online gambling enacted in the country.
However, PM Modi acknowledged that gaming can be a skill. He noted it requires speed and alertness. Such activities can be a tool for self-development, he added.
Personalized Learning and Balance
Students should develop their own learning patterns, according to Modi. He noted that some learn better in the morning, while others prefer nighttime study. Advice should be sought, but implementation depends on individual benefit.
Modi shared his experience with PPC, stating he has adapted the event’s pattern over time. He mentioned conducting the event in different states and changing his approach without abandoning the core purpose.
PM Modi highlighted the importance of balancing studies with rest, skills, and hobbies. He believes teachers should help students maintain a learning pace slightly ahead of their own.
Life Skills and Professional Skills
He differentiated between life skills and professional skills, stating both are essential. “So, skill starts with knowledge,” Modi explained. He believes these two categories of skills go hand-in-hand.
