Panjab University will host the 11th India International Science Festival (IISF-2025) from December 6 to 9 in Chandigarh. The festival focuses on utilizing science and technology to address challenges in North-West India, including weather prediction, disaster management, and societal development.
M. Ravichandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), confirmed the festival’s regional focus. He stressed the importance of making science practical and accessible for students.
Promoting Youth Innovation for National Development
The IISF serves as the Ministry’s annual event. It aims to promote science, technology, and innovation among young people across India. The festival seeks to inspire students to pursue science as a primary discipline, driving national development.
Ravichandran stated, “We are working towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.” He emphasized that young minds must develop commercially viable technologies for this vision. The Ministry creates ecosystems that strengthen innovation and nurture scientific thinking.
Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Encourages Participation
Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor Renu Vig highlighted the IISF’s role in fostering scientific curiosity. “IISF-2025 will celebrate India’s scientific achievements,” Vig said. She added that it inspires students and researchers to contribute to the nation’s progress through science and innovation.
Vig announced that numerous exhibitions will occur during the festival. She urged students from all parts of India to register for the event.
Festival Theme and Objectives
Suryachandra Rao, Director of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, presented details on the festival’s theme and itinerary. He emphasized that IISF aims to showcase India’s technological advancements.
The festival creates avenues for science communication, innovation, and collaboration. A curtain-raiser event for IISF-2025 saw participation from scientists, faculty, and students from various institutions.
