NIT Kurukshetra Student Dies by Suicide in Hostel

A first-year student at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra died by suicide in his hostel room on Monday. The student, identified as Angod Shiva, 19, was a first-semester Computer Science and Engineering major from Telangana. He was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his room, police reported. The incident occurred at the institute located in Kurukshetra, Haryana.

Student Found in Hostel Room

Shiva was reportedly alone in his room when the incident happened. His two roommates, both from Haryana, were at lunch. Shiva had attended classes earlier that morning. He returned to his room after his 10 a.m. class.

His roommates returned from lunch and found Shiva had not joined them. One roommate attempted to call Shiva to the mess. The room was locked from the inside. There was no response to knocking.

The roommate then went to the rear of the building. He looked through a window and saw Shiva hanging from the ceiling fan. He alerted the NIT administration immediately.

Police Investigate Death

NIT administration contacted the police. Vinod Kumar, in charge of a police post under the Thanesar police station, confirmed the incident. The student’s body was taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital. It is being held in the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Shiva’s family members have been notified. They are expected to arrive at the location soon. Police stated further action depends on the family’s statement. No suicide note was found at the scene.

During initial inquiries, friends told police Shiva spoke on the phone frequently. They could not understand his native language. He communicated with them in Hindi. Police are investigating the case under relevant legal sections.
