NEET PG 2025 Round 1 Choice Filling Extended for 239 New MD/MS Seats

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has extended the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 Round 1 choice filling deadline. Candidates now have until November 21 at noon to finalize their preferences for postgraduate medical programs. This extension follows the addition of 239 new MD and MS seats into the counselling matrix.

The MCC will publish NEET PG 2025 Round 1 allotment results on its official website, mcc.nic.in, on November 22 . This revised schedule allows applicants additional time to adjust their selections after recent changes in seat availability, which could impact their placement in various medical specialities.

Significant Seat Matrix Adjustments

The National Medical Commission (NMC) recently approved the addition of 239 new postgraduate seats. These newly incorporated seats are specifically designated for deemed universities across India. Deemed universities are institutions recognized for their academic standards, operating with a degree of autonomy in their curriculum and admissions. The inclusion of these seats aims to expand the opportunities for students seeking MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery) programmes.

Concurrently with the additions, the NMC also implemented removals from the NEET PG 2025 seat pool. A total of 235 PG DNB (Diplomate of National Board) seats have been withdrawn. These removals affect a significant number of institutions, specifically 186 government colleges and 49 private colleges. Applicants who had previously listed DNB seats in their preferences must now review and edit their college and course selections to align with the updated seat matrix.

Earlier Seat Revisions and Overall Figures

These recent adjustments are not the first for the NEET PG 2025 counselling process. Earlier, the MCC had already withdrawn 73 postgraduate seats from the initial seat matrix. These previous removals impacted several states:

  • 39 seats from Gujarat
  • 12 seats from Jammu & Kashmir
  • 4 seats from Telangana
  • 9 seats from Uttar Pradesh
  • 2 seats from West Bengal
  • 7 seats from Chhattisgarh

Initially, before any of these revisions, a comprehensive total of 28,663 seats were available for NEET PG 2025 counselling. This figure encompassed various postgraduate medical programmes such as MD, MS, PG Diploma, and DNB courses offered under different quotas nationwide. The continuous updates underscore the dynamic nature of medical seat availability.

Future Counselling Rounds and Student Action

The National Medical Commission has indicated plans to add further medical seats during NEET PG counselling 2025 Round 2. This suggests that the seat matrix may undergo more changes in subsequent counselling phases. Students participating in the counselling process are advised to remain vigilant and regularly check the official MCC website for all forthcoming announcements and schedule modifications.

Candidates must ensure their choices accurately reflect their preferences and the latest seat availability before the deadline. Missing the revised choice filling deadline could impact their chances of securing a postgraduate medical seat.
