NEET PG 2025 Cut-offs Reduced to Fill Vacant Seats

The government has lowered the qualifying cut-offs for the NEET PG 2025 counselling. This decision aims to prevent postgraduate medical seats from remaining vacant. Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel announced the change in the Rajya Sabha.

NEET PG Counselling Adjustments

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) manages the counselling process for postgraduate medical courses. This process covers 50% of all-India quota seats and all seats in central and deemed universities. State governments handle counselling for state quota seats and private college admissions.

Reason for Reduced Cut-offs

Following the second round of MCC counselling, 9,621 out of 29,476 offered seats remained unfilled. After including state counselling, approximately 20,000 seats were vacant. This included seats for Diplomate of National Board (DNB) courses.

Minister Patel stated that reducing the qualifying percentile aligns with previous years’ successful strategies for maximizing seat utilization. The government aims to ensure all available postgraduate medical seats are filled.

Revised Qualifying Percentiles

The qualifying percentiles for NEET PG 2025 have been revised. The unreserved (UR) category now requires above a seven percentile. The UR-Persons with Disability (PwD) category requires above a five percentile. All candidates in Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward Classes (SC/ST/OBC) categories are now declared qualified.

Category Revised Qualifying Percentile
Unreserved (UR) Above 7 Percentile
UR-Persons with Disability (PwD) Above 5 Percentile
SC/ST/OBC All declared qualified

Fee Structure Information

Fee structures for medical courses vary by state and institution. Government colleges offer subsidized fees for increased accessibility. Guidelines for fees in private institutions and deemed universities are set by the National Medical Commission. These guidelines are currently under judicial review.
