The National Medical Commission (NMC) faces strong criticism over significant delays in NEET PG 2025 counselling. Over 70 days after the exam, nearly 2 lakh medical graduates await admission for MD and MS seats without clear dates. Doctors’ groups blame the NMC for administrative lapses and point to a pending Supreme Court order on transparency.
NMC Yet to Approve Seat Matrix
The NMC, the regulatory body for medical education, has not yet approved the essential seat matrix. This approval is a required initial step for the NEET PG counselling process to begin. The delay also stems from a pending Supreme Court hearing on transparency concerns related to the examination.
The Supreme Court gave the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) a two-week period to submit a response. Sources indicate the court is likely to take up the matter on October 28 . The court’s decision may lead to further delays in the counselling schedule.
Doctors Call Process a ‘Circus’
Medical professionals have voiced increasing frustration over the delays and lack of clarity regarding alleged NEET PG result discrepancies. Many have taken to social media platforms, including X, to express their concerns.
Dr. Nachiket Bhatia stated on X, “Every year it’s the same circus. NEET PG exams get delayed, results come late, and counselling never starts on time. Every delay pushes their future back by months.” He added, “No timeline. No accountability. No respect.”
Dr. Sumit K directly criticized the NMC’s operations. He wrote, “NMC has turned PG/ UG/ SS counselling into a complete mockery. NEET PG 2025 counselling was delayed for over 70+ days after the exam — and apparently only 2 out of 24 members are working. A totally corrupt, dysfunctional, and impotent body.”
Allegations of Administrative Lapses
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has also highlighted the issues. Dr. Rohan Krishnan, an orthopedic surgeon and advocate for medical aspirants, explained detailed administrative lapses within the NMC in a video message.
In his 11-minute video, Dr. Krishnan attributed the counselling delay to the failure in approving seats. He also cited a significant lack of accountability within the commission. He alleged that the NMC is “being politically controlled” and lacks proper representation from doctors.
Dr. Krishnan questioned the NMC’s decision-making capacity. He stated that only two out of 24 members remain active, hindering the national regulatory body’s effective functioning.
Other Related Controversies
The current counselling delays follow other controversies surrounding NEET PG 2025. The NBEMS previously cancelled 22 NEET PG results due to unfair means. Additionally, 11 FMGE candidates were disqualified over similar concerns.
Reports also emerged alleging a data leak from NEET PG 2025. Doctors claimed that personal details belonging to 1.38 lakh aspirants were exposed and potentially sold, adding to the instability surrounding the examination process.
