Nagaland ad hoc teachers continued their strike for the 10th day on Monday. They are demanding a clear timeline for service regularisation. The teachers rejected the government’s request to end their cease-work protest.
Teachers Reject Government Appeal
Members of the All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers’ Group (ANATG)-2015 batch met at their protest site. They demand a specific timeline for regularising 1,166 ad hoc teachers. The group stated the government’s February 12 letter lacked a clear plan. This failure led to their rejection of the appeal.
The School Education Department urged teachers to resume duties on February 13. They claimed the government was reviewing the matter. The department asked for cooperation for students’ benefit.
Strike Continues Without Timeline
The ANATG-2015 batch stated the lack of a concrete timeline forces them to continue protesting. They previously suspended an indefinite hunger strike on February 12. This suspension followed government assurances.
A general meeting on Monday solidified the decision to prolong the agitation. Teachers are awaiting outcomes from a high-level meeting. This meeting involves Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and is scheduled for Monday evening.
The ANATG-2015 batch has protested since February 4. They seek immediate service regularisation. They cite nearly a decade of ad hoc service despite government promises.
Demand for Written Commitment
The teachers are not protesting on weekends. They remain open to dialogue. However, they insist the strike continues. It will persist until a definite, written commitment is provided. This commitment must include a specific timeline.
