A 21-year-old mother, Shital Chandrakant Chitte, took her Class 12 Maharashtra board examination in Nanded city on Wednesday with her 10-day-old baby. She appeared for her Political Science exam. This follows her English exam on February 10, just two days after giving birth. Her sister accompanied her for that exam.
Special Facility Provided
College authorities at People’s College created a special room. They called it ‘Matrusneh Kaksha,’ meaning mother-friendly room. A cradle was provided for the baby. This allowed Chitte to write her exam while her infant rested.
Student’s Determination
Chitte, a student at Shri Basweshwar College, is married. She has no one at home to care for the baby during the day. Her husband works and is away. She considers the Class 12 exam important for her future. She chose to attend and not miss the examination. Her family supports her decision to continue her education.
Official Response
Madhav Salgar, Nanded education officer, praised the college’s initiative. He stated that the administration would arrange similar facilities at exam centers. This is to motivate students facing similar situations.
State First
Sudhakar Telang, Maharashtra board’s Latur divisional president, said this is the first such arrangement in the state. The Maharashtra board’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations started on February 10 . A total of 861 candidates are taking exams at this center.
