The Maharashtra government has cancelled the recognition of 107 examination centres for the Class 10 and 12 board exams in 2026. This action is part of a statewide crackdown on cheating and irregularities. Minister Dada Bhuse announced the move in the state assembly on Friday. The cancellations affect 31 centres for Class 10 and 76 for Class 12 exams. These centres faced issues reported around January 13.
The state has launched a “copy-free examination campaign” for the February-March 2026 exams. This initiative aims to ensure a fair and secure testing environment. CCTV cameras are now mandatory at all Class 10 and 12 examination venues. Staff at centres lacking CCTV coverage have been replaced. Special vigilance squads and drones are deployed at sensitive locations.
Anti-Copying Measures Implemented
District-level vigilance committees are now in place. District Collectors chair these committees. Their roles were defined by a government resolution on January 9. Flying squads are prepared for unannounced visits to exam centres. Immediate action will be taken against individuals involved in malpractice.
The Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices Act will be enforced strictly. Cognizable and non-bailable offences can be registered. This applies to anyone involved in or abetting cheating. Last month, drone cameras exposed widespread cheating during a Class 12 exam. This occurred at a centre in Beed district. Seventeen teachers were suspended following this incident.
