ABVP’s Campaign Priorities
ABVP will focus its campaign on several key issues. These include:
- Campus infrastructure improvements.
- Enhanced women’s safety measures.
- Making education more affordable for all students.
- Strengthening the accountability of the students’ union.
The organization plans to highlight what it describes as “failures” of the current Left-led JNUSU. It aims to present an “issue-based and constructive” alternative for student governance. ABVP stated the Left-dominated union has neglected academic and infrastructural development in recent years.
Arun Srivastava, Chief Campaign Coordinator for ABVP JNU, articulated the group’s goals. He said, “Our goal is to strengthen JNU academically, ensure the safety of female students, and make quality education affordable for all. ABVP advocates for constructive politics and responsible student leadership. This remains our unwavering commitment in this election.”
Recent Wins and Campus Initiatives
ABVP National Secretary Shalini Verma highlighted the organization’s recent successes beyond JNU. She noted wins in student elections at Hyderabad Central University, Guwahati University, and Punjab University. Verma also cited previous initiatives by ABVP representatives within JNU. These included reopening the railway reservation counter and upgrading campus facilities, aimed at improving student life.
Presidential candidate Vikas Patel claimed a shift in campus sentiment. He stated students are rejecting “negative politics” and supporting ABVP’s “nationalist, constructive, and student-centric approach.” Patel added, “The entire campus resonates with a sentiment of change, confidence, and decisive support for the ABVP.” He believes the university’s traditionally Leftist atmosphere is transforming.
JNUSU Election Schedule and History
The JNUSU 2025 elections will feature contests among ABVP, various Left student groups, and other independent student organizations. The university’s student body will choose its representatives for the coming term.
Voting for the JNUSU elections is scheduled for November 4 . Polling will take place in two sessions: 9 am to 1 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm . The counting of votes will follow, with election results expected to be announced on November 6 .
In the previous JNUSU elections, Left-backed student groups secured three of the four central panel posts. ABVP won the Joint Secretary position in that election, marking its first central panel victory in nearly ten years. This year’s contest is expected to be closely watched by political observers and students alike.
