Jindal University Professor Suspended for Modi-Hitler Comparison

An associate professor at OP Jindal Global University in Sonipat, Haryana, has been suspended for one semester. The suspension follows allegations that the professor compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Adolf Hitler. The complaint was filed by the father of a first-year undergraduate student.

Professor Suspended Over Alleged Remarks

Vishav Bajaj, father of student Vikhyaat Bajaj, lodged a complaint with the Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) in November. He alleged his son faced harassment and humiliation affecting his academic performance and mental well-being. The complaint stemmed from an essay on ‘URI: The Surgical Strike’ written by Vikhyaat Bajaj on October 31, 2025. Bajaj claimed this essay displeased university faculty.

According to the complaint, on November 3, Vikhyaat Bajaj was allegedly harassed during a class. Further allegations detail remarks made during a ‘Politics of Representation’ course on November 7. Vishav Bajaj described these remarks as politically derogatory, inflammatory, and disturbing.

Specific Allegations Detailed

The complaint specified that the remarks included direct comparisons of the Prime Minister to Adolf Hitler. It also alleged that national security operations were characterized as mere gimmicks and branding exercises. Vishav Bajaj stated his son was targeted due to previously praising the Indian government and Prime Minister.

The complaint further alleged that Vikhyaat Bajaj faced public humiliation in class for his essay. He was reportedly failed in the subject. After Vikhyaat Bajaj submitted a written complaint to the university vice-chancellor, an inquiry was conducted by the executive dean.

University Response and HHRC Involvement

The inquiry found that failing Vikhyaat Bajaj was unjustified. The university subsequently revised his internal assessment results, passing him in the subject. Vishav Bajaj claimed this episode created resentment among some professors towards his son.

The HHRC is currently hearing the matter. The university has stated it is cooperating with the commission’s directives. On January 16, the HHRC requested reports from the Sonipat police commissioner and the university registrar. The registrar is scheduled to appear before the HHRC on May 13.
