JEE Main 2026: NIT Tiruchirappalli, Surathkal, Warangal Top Cut-offs

NIT Tiruchirappalli, NIT Karnataka Surathkal, and NIT Warangal consistently record the highest cut-offs for BTech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) among all National Institutes of Technology (NITs). These institutions have remained the most competitive over the past three years, according to Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main cut-off trends.

Candidates seeking admission to NITs must qualify the JEE Main exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). For BTech CSE, NIT Tiruchirappalli closed admissions at All India Rank (AIR) 1449 in 2025. This compares to AIR 1224 in 2024 and AIR 1509 in 2023, showing stable competition for this top institute.

Following NIT Tiruchirappalli, NIT Karnataka Surathkal and NIT Warangal are the next most competitive. NIT Surathkal closed its BTech CSE admission at AIR 1827 in 2025. NIT Warangal closed at AIR 2409 in the same year.

Varying Competition Across NITs

Other prominent NITs, including Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur; National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra; National Institute of Technology Delhi; and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, have BTech CSE cut-offs beyond AIR 6000. These ranks indicate lower competition compared to the top-tier NITs.

Institutes located in the North-East, such as NIT Arunachal Pradesh, NIT Mizoram, NIT Manipur, and NIT Nagaland, consistently record the lowest JEE Main cut-offs. Their closing ranks often exceed AIR 30000, reflecting significantly less competition.

NIT Admissions through JoSAA

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) manages a combined counselling process for admissions. This includes 127 technical institutes: 31 NITs, 26 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and other participating institutions.

Admission to the NIT+ system relies on the All India Rank (AIR) achieved in JEE Main. Additionally, candidates must secure at least 75% aggregate marks in their Class 12 board examinations, or 65% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. Alternatively, they must rank among the top 20 percentile of students in their respective boards.

JoSAA counselling for NIT admissions commences only after the declaration of JEE Advanced results. JEE Advanced is required for admission to IITs, and only candidates with a JEE Main rank within the top 2.5 lakh are eligible to appear for it.
