Swiggy’s quick commerce platform, Instamart, partnered with Young India Skills University (YISU) to launch a new academic training program. The initiative aims to equip over 5,000 youths in Telangana with skills for careers within the quick commerce industry . Swiggy announced the collaboration on Tuesday.
Instamart and YISU formalized their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). YISU operates under the Young India Skills University Telangana Act 2024 , a detail confirmed by Swiggy.
Addressing Industry Demand
The program directly responds to the rapid growth of the quick commerce sector in India. This industry focuses on ultra-fast delivery of groceries and essential goods directly to consumers. Such operations require specialized skills in logistics, inventory management, and last-mile delivery.
Girish Menon, Swiggy Ltd Chief Human Resources Officer, highlighted the program’s strategic intent. “Our collaboration creates practical, industry-aligned learning pathways,” Menon stated. “These paths specifically prepare graduates for real-world roles in supply chain and quick commerce operations.”
Menon clarified the nature of this investment. He said, “This is a long-term investment in India’s skilling ecosystem. It is not a short-term hiring initiative for Swiggy.” The goal is to develop a skilled talent pool for the entire sector.
Evolving Quick Commerce Landscape
Quick commerce has moved beyond a mere convenience service. It now functions as a core component of India’s broader retail and supply chain infrastructure, Menon explained. This shift fuels a significant demand for proficient operations and management talent across the industry.
VLVSS Subba Rao, YISU Vice Chancellor, underscored the university’s role. “This program testifies to YISU’s commitment to industry-aligned skilling,” Rao commented. He also acknowledged “Instamart’s leadership in shaping the future of quick commerce through workforce development in Telangana state.”
Rao further stated that the partnership will address specific, evolving needs within the sector. It aims to equip young talent with skills directly relevant to available jobs, thereby improving employability.
Program Details and Structure
The Memorandum of Understanding outlines clear responsibilities for both partners. Instamart will contribute its specialized industry expertise. This includes providing sector-specific insights to keep the curriculum current and relevant.
Instamart’s involvement extends to instructional support. This will include bringing in guest faculty who are practitioners from the quick commerce field. These experts will share real-world scenarios and best practices with students.
YISU will maintain its academic leadership role. The university will provide comprehensive academic oversight for the program. Its Academic Council will be responsible for curriculum approval, ensuring educational quality and standards are met.
The program design itself emphasizes a balance. It combines rigorous academic quality with extensive practical exposure. This dual approach ensures that students completing the program will possess skills directly valued by employers in the quick commerce sector, according to the joint statement.
This initiative represents a strategic effort to bridge the skills gap in a rapidly expanding industry. By combining academic rigor with practical industry insights, the program aims to create a robust pipeline of skilled professionals ready for immediate employment in quick commerce and related logistics fields within Telangana.
