A first-year MBBS student died by suicide at the Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College hostel in Indore on Monday . Police are investigating the death, which they say appears to be linked to academic stress.
Student Found Deceased in Hostel Room
The student, identified as Antariksh Agrawal, 20, was found hanging in his hostel room. His roommate discovered the situation when Agrawal did not respond to repeated knocking. Other students helped break open the door.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Tushar Singh stated that no suicide note was found at the scene. Preliminary information gathered from fellow students indicates Agrawal was experiencing academic pressure. Agrawal, a native of Gwalior, began his MBBS studies at the college last year.
College Initiates Investigation
College Dean Dr. Arvind Ghanghoria confirmed that the institute has formed a committee. This committee will investigate the circumstances surrounding Agrawal’s death. The dean also noted that initial conversations with students pointed to recent stress.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Police are examining all aspects related to the student’s death.
