Indian Students in Iran Refuse Evacuation Over Exams

Indian students in Iran are refusing evacuation orders due to upcoming exams. The Indian Embassy in Tehran advised citizens to stay home and monitor updates amid rising regional tensions. Approximately 9,000 Indian nationals are in Iran, mostly students.

Students Cite Academic Commitments

Students report difficulty leaving Iran. Bilal Bhat, an Indian student in Tehran, stated, “We have exams on March 5 and 28.” He added that leaving could invalidate their degrees. Bhat expects to depart after exams are postponed.

Another student, Musaid, described the internal situation as stable. However, he noted external tensions and potential war discussions. Musaid confirmed that the Indian embassy is coordinating with universities for exam postponements.

Embassy Issues Safety Advisory

The embassy’s advisory follows escalating hostilities. Airstrikes and counterattacks have disrupted daily life. The embassy urged all Indian nationals to exercise caution and avoid non-essential travel.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed contact with Indian citizens. They are working with local authorities to facilitate evacuations for those wishing to return.
