The Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) will launch a new campus in Mumbai in 2026. The campus will offer undergraduate and graduate programs in computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and business. This makes Illinois Tech the first U.S. university approved by India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish a degree-granting campus in the country.
Admissions Now Open for 2026
Applications for the inaugural class are currently accepted on the official Illinois Tech website, iit.edu. Prospective students must submit their applications by June 15 . An application fee of Rs 5,000 is required for both undergraduate and postgraduate program applications.
Undergraduate Admissions Criteria
Selection for undergraduate programs will consider high school performance, essays, and the student’s chosen major. Applicants may also submit optional scores from the American College Testing (ACT) or Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT).
Postgraduate Admissions Requirements
Candidates for postgraduate programs need a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants without a bachelor’s degree in computer science must have completed undergraduate courses with a grade of B or higher in accelerated computer science (CS 401) or object-oriented programming I (CS 115) and II (CS 116).
Graduates with a three-year Indian bachelor’s degree from NAAC-A accredited institutions are also eligible to apply.
Campus Details and Vision
The new campus will be located in Mumbai’s Godrej Business District. Illinois Tech President Raj Echambadi stated the campus will offer high-quality STEM and business education to students. The university’s Elevate initiative will provide students with real-world experiences, mentorship, and career preparation.
