IITM Summer Internship 2026: Climate Science Research

The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune is accepting applications for its 2026 Summer Internship Programme. The program offers Master’s students practical research experience in atmospheric and climate sciences.

Program Details

The internship lasts two to three months. Selected students will join active research teams. They will work with experienced scientists on climate science projects.

Interns will learn to analyze meteorological data. They will also study scientific theory validation and research problem-solving. The program focuses on hands-on engagement.

Eligibility Criteria

IITM offers approximately 30 internship positions. Applicants must be pursuing a Master’s degree. This includes M.Sc. or M.Tech. programs.

Relevant fields of study include Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Environmental Sciences. Engineering disciplines in related areas are also accepted.

A strong academic record is required. This applies from Class 10 through the current Master’s semester. Students must show interest in climate modeling, weather prediction, or monsoon studies.

Applicants must be enrolled in a recognized university or institute. This applies to institutions within India and abroad.

  • Register an account with a valid email address.
  • Complete the online application form. Provide academic, career, and research interest details.
  • Upload required documents. These include a consolidated marksheet, a current resume, and a recommendation letter from the Head of Department.
  • Submit a brief research proposal. This should outline a specific area of interest within climate science.
  • Review all submitted information before final submission.

Intern Assignment

A maximum of two interns will be assigned to each scientist mentor. This ensures focused guidance.
