IIT Roorkee has launched its inaugural Advanced Certificate in Quantum Computing: Algorithms and AI/ML program. The application deadline for this program is November 23, 2025 . Offered online in collaboration with TimesPro, the 6.5-month certificate aims to train professionals for the growing quantum technology sector.
The program, delivered through IIT Roorkee’s Continuing Education Centre (CEC), prepares participants for roles in quantum research and development, secure technologies, and AI innovation. Students will code and simulate advanced quantum algorithms and apply Quantum Machine Learning (QML) to practical situations.
Program Curriculum and Hands-on Learning
The curriculum progresses from quantum internet protocols and secure communication to quantum machine learning. Participants will gain hands-on experience using industry-standard tools like Qiskit, PennyLane, and IBM Quantum Systems.
IIT Roorkee states participants will build and deploy real-world QML applications. These applications span sectors such as finance, healthcare, optimization, drug discovery, and image classification. The program utilizes IBM and D-Wave quantum systems for algorithm simulation.
Quantum Computing Market Growth
The global quantum computing market shows significant growth projections:
| Year | Estimated Market Value |
|---|---|
| 2024 | USD 1.42 billion |
| 2030 (Projected) | USD 4.24 billion (20.5% CAGR) |
Reports from BCG indicate quantum computing will generate economic value through public and corporate investment. McKinsey’s Quantum Technology Monitor identifies quantum computing, communication, and sensing as key growth areas impacting critical industries.
Expert Insight
Prof. Kaushik Ghosh, Coordinator, CEC, IIT Roorkee, commented on the program’s design. He stated, "We designed this program to bridge theory and deployment. Participants will learn to code, simulate, benchmark quantum algorithms and exploit AI/ML methods where quantum advantage is emerging." He added that combining Qiskit, PennyLane, and real hardware access prepares engineers and researchers to move prototypes into production for security, optimization, and data-intensive applications in finance and healthcare.
Program Structure and Certification
The certificate program includes over 300 learning hours, combining synchronous and asynchronous modes. It features case studies, assignments, and a 30-hour Capstone Project. An optional campus immersion is also available.
Key Modules include:
- Introduction to Quantum Computing and Applications
- Quantum Algorithms and Software
- Quantum Communications and Networks
- Quantum Machine Learning
- Quantum Machine Learning Applications
Participants will develop practical knowledge of quantum communication protocols, including Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), teleportation, and quantum cryptography. They will gain hands-on experience with algorithms like Shor’s, Grover’s, and Simon’s. The program also covers implementing advanced QML models such as QSVMs, QNNs, and Quantum GANs.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Certificate from the CEC, IIT Roorkee. The final date to apply for this program is November 23, 2025 .
