Three professors from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras have received the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025 . The awards recognize outstanding contributions by scientists, technologists, and innovators across various fields. This high honor acknowledges exemplary achievements and lifetime work that advance India’s scientific and technological capabilities.
The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (RVP) stands among India’s most significant recognitions for science and technology contributions. IIT Madras publicly congratulated its faculty members: Professor Thalappil Pradeep, Professor Shweta Agarwal, and Professor Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam.

Professor Thalappil Pradeep from the Department of Chemistry received the Vigyan Shri award. His research focuses on Clean Water Technologies , advanced materials, and molecular clusters. This work has garnered global recognition.
Professor Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam
Professor Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam from the Department of Electrical Engineering received the Vigyan Yuva – Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award. He developed affordable healthcare technologies , including medical devices. His contributions also include high-resolution large-scale human brain imaging technologies and establishing globally recognized R&D centers in health-tech.
Professor Shweta Prem Agrawal
Professor Shweta Prem Agrawal from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering also received the Vigyan Yuva – Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award. She earned recognition for her pioneering research contributions in the field of cryptography .
