IIT Madras has announced application dates for its M.Tech and M.A. programs for the 2026 academic year. The online application portal opens on March 28, 2026 .
The institute offers a dual admissions pathway for M.Tech programs. Students holding a B.Tech degree from any IIT with a CGPA of 8.0 or higher are eligible for direct admission. These applicants are exempt from the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) requirement.
For other M.Tech applicants, a valid GATE 2026 score remains the primary eligibility criterion. The M.A. programs in humanities and social sciences also have specific application processes.
Application Process
Prospective students must apply through the official website, mtechadm.iitm.ac.in. The application portal will be accessible from March 28, 2026, to April 27, 2026.
Applicants need to create a user account on the portal. This requires a valid email address and mobile number.
The application form requires personal details, academic qualifications, and GATE 2026 registration numbers for eligible candidates. Scanned copies of necessary documents must be uploaded. This includes photographs, signatures, degree certificates, and category-specific documents.
The application fee is non-refundable. General and OBC candidates pay ₹400. SC, ST, and PwD candidates pay ₹200.
M.Tech candidates must also register on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). This is for managing admission offers and seat allotments.
