CHENNAI – Students proficient in traditional music can now pursue engineering programs at IIT Madras. Institute Director Prof V Kamakoti announced this new admission pathway on December 17 , during the 93rd annual South Indian Music Conference and Festival in Chennai.
Prof Kamakoti highlighted the deep connection between music and scientific principles, particularly mathematics. He urged parents to encourage their children to learn music from a young age, citing its foundational benefits for analytical thinking. The institute is establishing a ‘bamboo-based mic-less’ auditorium, designed for advanced acoustic research and sustainable building practices.
