IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation has announced the opening of applications for the second batch of its Aviation Safety Management (ASM) program. The final date for applications is January 31, 2026 . This specialized two-year program is a collaborative effort with France’s L’Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC) and is supported by Airbus. The second cohort is scheduled to begin its studies in February 2026 .
The Aviation Safety Management program addresses a critical need for safety education in India’s rapidly growing civil aviation sector and the broader region. India’s air travel and infrastructure have expanded significantly, increasing the demand for trained safety professionals. This program aims to meet that demand by developing advanced skills in aviation safety.
Program Structure and Objectives
The ASM program is designed to equip professionals with both deep technical expertise and strong operational judgment. These competencies are fundamental for effective safety management systems across aviation domains. The curriculum covers topics crucial for modern aviation safety, including risk assessment, incident investigation, safety culture development, and regulatory compliance.
IIT Madras Pravartak plans to admit up to 30 participants for the upcoming batch. This limited intake ensures focused learning and intensive interaction. Dr. MJ Shankar Raman, CEO of IITM Pravartak, stated the program equips professionals to improve safety performance throughout the aviation ecosystem, from air traffic control to airline operations.
Who Can Apply?
The program targets experienced professionals currently working within the aviation industry. Eligible candidates include personnel from various organizations: airlines, major airports, and air navigation service providers (ANSPs). Additionally, professionals from aviation training schools, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organizations, and civil aviation authorities can apply.
The ASM program is tailored for senior and mid-level managers. These individuals are typically in operational roles or oversight positions within aviation operators and state regulatory bodies. The program seeks to enhance their capacity to implement and manage robust safety protocols.
Academic Delivery and Key Features
Expert faculty from ENAC, France, will deliver the academic content for the Aviation Safety Management program. This collaboration ensures an international standard of education and global best practices. All in-person instructional sessions are conducted at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi campus, providing participants with access to a premier academic environment.
The program spans two years and incorporates a blended learning approach, featuring periodic in-person sessions. A mandatory six-month project or dissertation allows participants to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world aviation safety challenges.
Detailed Session Schedule
The in-person session schedule is structured to accommodate working professionals, with varying frequencies across the two years:
| Program Year | Session Frequency | Duration Per Session |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | Every two months | 4–5 days |
| Year 2 | Every month | 4–5 days |
This structured approach ensures continuous engagement and deep dives into critical safety topics. The partnership between IIT Madras Pravartak, ENAC, and Airbus reinforces a commitment to elevating aviation safety standards and fostering a skilled workforce for the future of air travel.
