IIT Kanpur’s SATHEE platform, launched three years ago, is expanding beyond competitive exam coaching like JEE and NEET. The initiative, a collaboration with the Ministry of Education, aims to become a “digital public learning infrastructure” supporting routine school education within five years. SATHEE was recently featured in the “Real-World Impact of AI in Education” casebook at India AI Summit 2026.
SATHEE’s Expanded Role
SATHEE, initially focused on entrance exam preparation, now offers broader academic support. It provides live, interactive doubt-clearing sessions and courses. Students can also use a dedicated discussion forum and an app for asking questions. An AI-enabled academic chatbot assists with common queries and platform navigation.
The platform is adopting a blended learning approach with the introduction of offline study centers, known as SATHEE Kendras. These centers will offer structured study environments, access to the digital platform, and mentorship.
Real-World Impact and Reach
SATHEE has been implemented in 569 government non-School of Eminence institutions in Punjab. This implementation saw a significant increase in competitive exam qualifiers in the 2025 academic year.
JEE Main qualifiers rose from 49 to 85. NEET qualifiers increased from 335 to 497.
The platform is designed to bridge access gaps, particularly for students in rural and remote areas. It offers preparation for JEE, NEET, SSC, banking, ICAR, and CUET. SATHEE’s content is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 vision.
Key Features and Differentiators
SATHEE emphasizes conceptual clarity over rote learning. It aims to build a strong academic foundation for board examinations and foster interest in science.
The platform hosts over 90,000 practice questions , structured test series, and more than 10,000 video lectures . Content is available in over 12 Indian languages.
Unlike fragmented coaching models, SATHEE integrates learning, practice, assessment, analytics, and mentoring. It provides structured feedback and performance insights. The platform is free, government-supported, and developed with academic oversight.
AI Integration and Future Vision
Artificial intelligence is central to SATHEE’s design. An AI-powered Performance Diagnostics Engine (PDE) analyzes student performance to identify learning gaps. An AI-driven recommendation system suggests relevant study material. An Adaptive Practice Engine generates customized practice questions.
The platform also offers an AI-based Rank and College Predictor. An AI-enabled chatbot assists with navigation and queries. SATHEE’s recent AI integrations include a Conversational Tutor, doubt solver, study plan generator, and mock test generator.
Over the next five years, SATHEE aims to become India’s AI-powered national learning infrastructure for competitive and foundational education. Goals include deepening school integration, expanding blended learning, strengthening outcome tracking, and scaling multilingual AI-assisted personalization.
User Adoption and Reporting
Since its launch, SATHEE has seen over 17 lakh students use the platform. The platform does not publish aggregate success numbers unless students voluntarily share their results.
Content development involves faculty from premier institutions like IITs and AIIMS, alongside in-house subject experts. Onboarding follows a structured academic workflow including syllabus mapping, expert review, and quality assurance.
Challenges include raising awareness, especially in areas reliant on offline coaching, and ensuring access to devices and reliable internet connectivity.
