The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27.
The application portal will remain open until 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendations.
Referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is outlined in the official admission notification.
Additional qualifications may be required. These include scores from standardized tests such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will admit students based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview.
The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. This step is a key part of the selection process for PhD and PG programs.
