IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility and Requirements
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This is done through a self-declaration. Candidates also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters.
The notification states referees will assess candidates on aptitude. They will also evaluate proficiency in the chosen field. Research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills are key areas.
Academic and Language Proficiency
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific entrance examinations. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi programs will be based on performance in an interview. The institute will invite candidates with strong academic records. These candidates will be interviewed by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
