Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.
Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency. They must also nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International applicants can submit scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, or similar assessments.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will admit students based on their performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive an invitation to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The interview panel will evaluate candidates’ suitability for the program.
