IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students – Apply by March 30

IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Admissions are for the academic year 2026-27.

Applications are submitted online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026 .

Admission Requirements

Applicants must provide a statement declaring English language proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills. This information is outlined in the official notification.

Depending on the program, candidates may need to submit scores from national or international standardized tests. These include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE
  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

International students may also need to submit scores from English proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will conduct interviews to select candidates. Students with strong academic records will receive an interview invitation. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline.

The interview assesses a candidate’s suitability for the chosen PhD or PG program.
