The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.
Admission Process
Interested candidates must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal will remain open until 4 pm on March 30, 2026.
Applicants are required to submit a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be contacted to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi may require scores from national examinations such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) qualification may also be considered.
International examination scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted. Furthermore, candidates must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, or any other equivalent language test.
Selection Criteria
Admission to IIT Delhi programs for international students will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with a strong academic record will be invited to interview with a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
