IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window will close on March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Non-Indian nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will be asked to assess a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. These assessments are detailed in the official admission notification.
Academic and Language Proficiency Scores
To be considered for admission to PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE awards.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Additionally, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will grant admission based on candidate performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will receive invitations for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
