IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Details
The application window will close at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to submit recommendation letters. The notification states referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude and potential.
Referees will assess the candidate’s:
- Overall aptitude
- Proficiency in their chosen field
- Potential for research
- Independent thinking abilities
- Proficiency in oral and written English
Academic and Language Proficiency
Submission of scores from national and international standardized tests may be required. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International tests like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.
English language proficiency must be demonstrated. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Applicants must submit scores from these tests.
Selection Process
Admission decisions will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. They will evaluate candidates’ suitability for the program.
