The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility and Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will be asked to assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities, according to the institute’s notification.
Academic Qualifications and Testing
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
International examination scores are also considered. Accepted tests include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted test scores are from TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Those with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
