IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.
Admissions for International Students
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are open for the 2026-27 academic year. Prospective students can submit their applications online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be contacted to comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Academic and Language Proficiency
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Indian Tests: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
- International Tests: Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
- English Language Tests: TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, Cambridge English Examination, or equivalent.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi programs will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview will assess their suitability for the program.
